hear’ the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\">AI<\/a> version of her in the recent <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a> documentary concerning her death.<\/p>\n<p>She <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/09\/21\/who-is-gabby-petito-timeline-of-the-travel-bloggers-disappearance-15293150\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vanished during a US road trip in August, 2021<\/a>, and was found dead the following month. Her fianc\u00e9 Brian Laundrie confessed to the murder in a notebook before dying from suicide.<\/p>\n<p>True-crime series <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/10\/12\/gabby-petito-died-of-strangulation-coroner-reveals-in-autopsy-results-15408694\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Murder: Gabby Petito recounted her final days<\/a> and, at the start of the series, which premiered on February 17, a message informed viewers that AI technology has been used to help them tell her story.<\/p>\n<p>‘Gabby Petito\u2019s journal entries and text messages are brought to life in this series in her own voice, using voice recreation technology,’ it reads.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the release, the filmmakers explained that they had received ‘blessing’ of Petito’s family to do so.<\/p>\n<p>However, in a new interview, those closest to her shared how strange they found it to hear the AI version of their loved one, despite giving full permission.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilotshopworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/SEI_237581032-733c.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22578225\" alt=\"14330659 Netflix slammed for 'monetizing' off Gabby Petito tragedy with new American Murder documentary - It was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime. It\u2019s her story.’<\/p>\n<p>Before deciding to go ahead they contacted Petito’s family to get their permission: ‘We reached out to the family to get their blessing and then we worked diligently to represent it in exactly how it was written.
