A British crime drama that\u2019s soared to the top of the Netflix<\/a> charts has achieved staggering viewing figures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Released on March 13, the four-part series Adolescence<\/a> stars Stephen Graham<\/a> as Eddie Miller, a father whose family is shattered after his 13-year-old son Jamie (Owen Cooper) is accused of murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shot in one take, the show also stars Ashley Walters<\/a> as DI Luke Bascombe, Christine Tremarco as Manda Miller and Erin Doherty<\/a> as Briony Ariston.<\/p>\n

Both critics and fans have rushed to praise the series<\/a> \u2013 which currently holds a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n

\u2018This is not an easy watch… But in what Adolescence has to say, and in how eloquently and audaciously it says it, it\u2019s also among the very best things — and an early contender for the best thing — you will see on the small screen this year,\u2019 Rolling Stone wrote in its review.<\/p>\n

\u2018It is a drama so quietly devastating that I won\u2019t forget it for a very long time,\u2019 The Daily Telegraph added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile viewers said it was \u2018phenomenal\u2019 and left them \u2018bawling\u2019.<\/p>\n

Adolescence has been the most watched show on Netflix in recent days, but it\u2019s now been revealed just how popular it\u2019s been.<\/p>\n

In the four days after its release, the show reached a jaw-dropping 24.3 million views.<\/p>\n

Previously speaking to Metro<\/strong>, Stephen explained the idea for Adolescence \u2013 which he co-wrote with Jack Thorne \u2013 came after he heard about \u2018another incident of a young boy stabbing a young girl\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m going to call them young boys, because they were young boys, and they are young boys. And it just hurt my heart, basically,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018I just wondered, what kind of a society and what kind of a world are we living in where this kind of thing has happened, not once, not twice, three, four, five times? It just really made me curious.\u2019<\/p>\n

He recalling feeling that \u2018this was something that we could look at as a society\u2019, adding that his objective \u2018was never to point the finger in any way, shape or form, but just to raise the question of why is this happening, and who is to blame? What is to blame? Family, school, society, influences\u2026 maybe we\u2019re all kind of accountable.\u2019<\/p>\n

He continued: \u2018What\u2019s that beautiful saying it takes a village to raise a child? I think maybe that\u2019s something we should look at as a collective. So, it\u2019s not necessarily pointing a finger at one specific individual. It\u2019s the whole thing itself. What would drive a young boy to do something like this?\u2019<\/p>\n
