Frankie Bridge, a former member of pop group The Saturdays, has revealed that ‘depression is absolutely kicking her a**e.’

The 36-year-old, who has spoken openly about her mental health since 2011, said she had made the comments in an Instagram post as ‘a little reminder that sometimes we have bad days.’

In the post she said: ‘I have finally made it down to the gym, it has taken me the whole day to actually get here.

‘My depression is absolutely kicking my arse at the moment, I’m so over it.

‘You just feel like you do all the things you’re told you’re meant to do, and then it just still always comes back.’

The Higher singer said she is ‘just so bored of myself’ and said that those around her ‘must just be so bored of it as well.’

‘But I’m here, I’m going to try and do as much as I can in the gym, because I know it will make me feel better, instead just sitting around eating s**t, which is what I’ve been doing all day, which only makes me feel worse, and I know that, so I don’t know why I do it, but here we are back in the same old place.’

She posted an update after her workout explaining how it had made her feel better.

Bridge added: ‘So there is not much that a little bit of Paramore and a workout can’t fix, I definitely feel a lot better.

‘And if I hadn’t have come in, I’d have just berated myself even more, that I had the whole day that I was able to come to the gym, and I just didn’t, I just sat around and just wallowed in self-pity, and so I am glad that I did it, and I do definitely feel better for it.’

She said that she feels exercise has ‘picked her up’ but also questioned why she ‘couldn’t have done it earlier’ has she had ‘a better day.’

Frankie said she ‘should just be pleased that she’s done it’ after not being able to workout during her depression previously.

The ambassador for mental health charity Mind wrote in another social media post earlier this month that her ‘mental health plummeted’ after ‘suffering with various illnesses.’

At the height of her career, Frankie shared she battled anxiety, stress, and uncontrollable panic attacks to the point she ‘couldn’t see the point of living any more.’

In her book Open: Why Asking For Help Can Save Your Life, she explained how a hospital star helped her cope with her mental health issues.

‘There were so many people who had experienced the same feelings as me, if not worse, that I felt understood and not so alone. I no longer had to hide, cover up and lie about how I was,’ she wrote.

Speaking in 2020 during an appearance on Loose Women, the musician said she ‘begged’ The Saturdays’ manager not to let a video shoot run over as she had only mentally prepared herself for one day of filming.

‘I felt like I’d become Frankie from The Saturdays and I’d become two people,’ she said, detailed how her husband Wayne Bridge struggled through her health issues.

‘Wayne didn’t know what to do and called my GP and she came to see me, spoke to Wayne and me, and rang my manager and psychiatrist who said, “The only way we’re going to help you is to take you away from the situation.” There wasn’t gonna be a good time.’

A year later, while appearing on I’m A Celebrity, Frankie detailed how she suffered a breakdown at just 21.

‘I was with Wayne, I was able to function at work, but then I’d come home and I couldn’t function. Just cry all the time. I didn’t want to be alive anymore, basically,’ she said.

She said that she realised it was ‘a bit shocking’ for people to find out it happened to her at such a young age, but that she ‘doesn’t mind talking about it.’

The singer began her career in 2001 with S Club Juniors. The spin-off from pop group S Club 7 released seven singles and two albums.

In 2007 she formed The Saturdays with Rochelle Humes, Una Healy, Mollie King, and Vanessa White. They achieved 13 UK top-10 singles and five UK top-10 albums before splitting in 2014.
