href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/05\/01\/sir-david-attenborough-will-represent-earth-if-aliens-ever-contact-us-18701520\/\">broadcaster and biologist\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/07\/25\/sir-david-attenborough-on-great-form-as-he-nears-100-19188957\/\">99th birthday<\/a>, Ocean with David Attenborough exposes the challenges facing our ocean from destructive fishing techniques to mass coral reef bleaching.<\/p>\n<p>But it is also a ‘story of optimism’, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/07\/30\/one-thing-never-call-legend-sir-david-attenborough-21324665\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blue Planet star<\/a> making the case that our oceans can ‘recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.’<\/p>\n<p>During Ocean, Attenborough addresses how treatment of the ocean has changed since he was a young boy to now, as he ‘approaches the end of my life.’<\/p>\n<p>He explains that in his childhood, the prevailing wisdom was that the ocean needed to be ‘tamed and mastered’ for the betterment of humanity, but that has been revised in his later years. <\/p>\n<p>Attenborough says: ‘When I first saw the sea as a young boy, it was thought of as a vast wilderness to be tamed and mastered for the benefit of
