A League of Their Own has been cancelled after 15 years on air.

The sports comedy panel show, which first launched on Sky One in 2010, will end with its upcoming 20th series as the broadcaster looks to give the show ‘the send-off it truly deserves’.

The show’s first 13 series were hosted by James Corden before Romesh Ranganathan took over, with team captains Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott joining Romesh for the final season.

Freddie Flintoff appeared as a captain for the first 16 series, before several guest captains took over.

Jack Whitehall also appeared as a permanent panellist from season five to 12, leaving in 2017, just a couple of years before Corden’s departure from the show in 2019.

The broadcaster said in a statement: ‘After fifteen years in the top-flight of TV, Sky’s much-loved sports comedy panel show is set for one final glorious season.

‘The team will begin filming its farewell series in Manchester this August – in front of its largest live audiences to date – ahead of airing on Sky Max and streaming on NOW later this year.’

Fans have just one request as the show’s cancellation is announced: bring back the golden era gang (Flintoff, Corden, and Whitehall) and give the series a proper send-off.

‘You’ve gotta get James Corden back to present the final ever show then!’ said Josh_b222.

‘Hope James, Jack & Freddie will be back as they made the show,’ said Kat_h81.

‘Would be awesome if they got everyone from back when it was good in for the farewell season,’ said Dutch71631097.

‘Got to bring back James Cordon, Freddie and Jack Whitehall!’ said MrTripping1.

Fans agreed that the show wasn’t the same after many of the key cast members left.

‘Defo run its course! Never the same without Corden or Andrew Flintoff. Only watched couple episodes of latest series. Repetitive gags and pretty dull. Great run tho,’ said Riggs_1.

‘Definitely time for it to be finished. Was amazing with Jack + Freddie on one team and James Cordon presenting, been rubbish since,’ said WTomaney.

Should A League of Their Own keep going?

  • Yes, I love it

  • No, it's time to end

Phil Edgar-Jones, Executive Director of Original Unscripted at Sky, said of the series coming to an end: ‘Series 20 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate everything A League of Their Own has achieved and to give it the send-off it truly deserves.

‘We’re incredibly proud of the show — it’s been a cornerstone of Sky’s entertainment line-up for fifteen years and has delivered endless laughter, heart, and unforgettable moments.

‘Huge thanks to the brilliant team at CPL Productions and to our fantastic on-screen line-up — Romesh, Jamie, Jill and [series regular] Micah [Richards] — who continue to bring such energy and chemistry to the show.’

Meanwhile, CPL Productions’ creative director Murray Boland described the last 15 years as a ‘privilege’.

He said: ‘The first episode of A League of Their Own was broadcast in March 2010.

‘The idea we’d still be making the show in 15 years’ time, having also made nine series of ALOTO Road Trips and won two BAFTAs would’ve sounded totally impossible.

‘It’s been an incredible journey. We would like to thank all the amazing performers, guests and sports stars for all the laughs and inspiration.

‘We’d also like to thank all the brilliant people who’ve worked so hard on the production team and crew.

‘Thank you to Sky for allowing us the privilege of making the show and a huge thank you to the fans who have watched and supported the show over the years.’

A League of Their Own will return to Sky MAX and NOW later this year.
