Coronation Street and Benidorm star Nigel Havers was a contestant on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2010, and he wasn’t a big fan of one of his fellow campmates.

The actor withdrew from the competition on day 9, after quitting a bushtucker trial halfway through.

The campmates were taking part in a trial called Kangaroo Court, which saw the slowest contestants given electric shocks.

Admitting he ‘wasn’t up for it’, Nigel quit the trial before withdrawing from the series entirely.

It wasn’t just the trials that rubbed Nigel up the wrong way, with the Corrie star being vocal about his dislike of fellow campmate and politician Lembit Öpik ever since.

Lembit was the second celebrity to be voted out of the series, leaving after Nigel and author Sheryl Gascoigne, with presenter Stacey Solomon going on to win Queen of the Jungle.

Speaking about his experience on the show, Nigel told The Guardian: ‘You think it looks bad on TV. S***, it was terrible. It was the boredom more than anything’.

He went on to admit that he would have ended up in prison if he’d stayed on the show any longer, as he ‘wanted to kill’ Lembit.

‘There was a bloke called Lembit Öpik, the politician. After a couple of days, I wanted to kill him.  Had I stayed, I would’ve killed him and I’d be in prison now. So it seemed like a good idea to leave.’

Nigel’s time on the cobbles

Soap fans will best know Nigel as Corrie’s conman Lewis Archer, who he played on and off between 2009 and 2019.

During his time in Weatherfield, Lewis wooed Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), but left her to flee the country after conning the bookies out of £4000.

He returned to the street in 2012 to make up for his wrongdoings, paying Peter Barlow back and handing himself in to the police.

However, his new leaf didn’t last long, as he went on to con Gail Platt out of £40,000 before running off to Belize.

He finally got things back on track with Audrey in 2018, before tragically dying before getting the chance to propose to her.

I’m A Celebrity returns on ITV1 and ITVX later this year.
